mirror, mirror, where art thou legend…

O’Brien blended old folklore with modern fantasy in his book Two Bird Swim.  He used a plausible character, howbeit lazy and willful, to create two more worlds, intertwining modern fantasia with the legends of old.

Isn’t this how folklore starts.  One person (O’Brien) does the phenomenal, his artistry in story telling, and creates a new world for people to submerse themselves into; intertwining fantasy with reality.  O’Brien created a new folklore with his book.

I researched some of the folklore characters in order to better understand the storyline.  Here are two of the characters: King Sweeney and Finn Mac Cumhaill.  They are very colorful creatures of folklore, but then no more colorful to the new characters that O-Brien birthed in his book.
